The remains of a very fine Perpendicular rood screen are standing here. The top of the screen was restored around 1900. The lower panels retain an interesting series of paintings of the apostles and several saints, but those in the north aisle have been to a large extent obliterated. The paintings look to have been painted by 3 different artists. This probably meant they were painted over time as money (from the local silver mines) was available for payment.
The screen doors don't close properly. This was often attributed to the notion that the doors of heaven are never closed. This is not very likely as all other Devon screen doors do shut.
